Cleaning, scraping out the grooves
restoring serenity
discovering what lies beneath the verdigris
the accumulations of centuries
(of sleaze, maybe)
Then one morning it all seems simple
there are wise, ancient trees
the small birds sing as if forever
there is always green
I can bear to walk the streets of grief
knowing there is healing
if I listen very carefully
