Two Blackbirds

Two blackbirds hopped down into the garden
danced a galliard down the tiled path
until they reached my bedroom window
where they paused to admire the white begonia growing there
(which by all rights shouldn’t be alive —
I forgot to bring it indoors last winter;
but it ignored the cold weather
and unfolded into shining silver beauty,
enhancing the red brick wall behind it)
The blackbirds hop-hopped
hoping to entice some earthworms …
shining black against radiant white.
And the sun came out.
