The hippopotamus who lost his teeth...
As you know, a hippopotamus has a VERY large mouth. But when he is born he is still small, and he sucks milk from his mother’s breast, just like all the other mammals.
Well, this story is about Harry the Hippo who, when he was a little boy, began to lose his milk teeth just like you, while his grown-up teeth grew in.
“Mummy” asked Harry, “what shall I do with my teeth that are falling out??”
“Don’t worry, dear,” replied his Mum. “You will get new teeth to replace the baby ones. And you can put the milk teeth under your pillow, and maybe the Tooth Fairy will come while you’re sleeping and put something under your pillow in exchange for a tooth.”
But Harry thought he’d collect all his milk teeth and put them under his pillow in one go, and then he would get a super-big present. What do you think of that? Good idea or not?
Well, I’ll tell you what happened... Harry had collected quite a lot of his milk teeth and put them in a paper bag, but it looked a bit crumpled up ... so one day his Mummy just threw it away! And when Harry wanted to put a whole heap of teeth under his pillow, he couldn’t find a single one!
Do you think there is a moral to this story? Ask your Dad and Mummy what they think.
And let me know: I’ll tell you what I think!
