Poems from Paradise Bay

nothing appears to happen
the water waits, nibbling softly
at the jaggy cliffs
light moves across the ripples
the boats rocks, flag flutters
nothing of moment
don’t be deceived
ebullient life beneath the wavy surface
shoals of silver fish swarming
reedy plants shaping their patterned dance
cliffs slowly crumbling
insects dying and being born
while, nestled among the bumpy coastal bushes
small bright flowers spring
jubilant forever
now try this backwards:
jubilant forever
small bright flowers spring
while, nestled among the bumpy coastal bushes
insects dying and being born
cliffs slowly crumbling
reedy plants shaping their patterned dance
shoals of silver fish swarming
ebullient life beneath the wavy surface
don’t be deceived
nothing of moment?
the boat rocks, flag flutters
light moves across the ripples
at the jaggy cliffs
the water waits, nibbling softly
nothing appears to happen.
Still life
stone heron
on rocky ledge
staring deep
into green sea
fish wanting
still waiting
