Morning in Amsterdam

pale sunlight filters through dusty windows;
we listen to Mozart string quartets via Spotify —
glorious way to begin the day.

No rushing, hurrying, scurrying,
forgetting what to remember —
instead, a whole day lies expectant,
hopeful, rocking gently
waiting to be embraced

there is a world outside:
legs walking past our window
swift or steady,
trucks rumble by;
we cradle the morning
and have no haste.

Remember those frantic moments
the impatient clock
the wondering what to wear —
would it turn wet? or windy?
Now in old age, no need to worry,
Time is our ally
we sit and watch the day arrive
solaced by music,
quietly expectant
