There was a young doctor named Jane
Who in medicine had garnered much fame
But her love for the Bird
Led her -- you may have heard --
To far countries, again and again.
There was a young man named Rafael
A remarkable kind of a male
For he led expeditions
And made disquisitions
On many birds (also the quail).
And now I must mention the dogs
Wire-haired Daschunds and surely no hogs!
For they made not a sound
And just scampered around
And let Jane clean their teeth with small logs (not true but couldn’t get a good rhyme here!).
Well, now let me get to the point
Ere my readers all grow out of joint
For Rafael and Jane
Met (and not on a plane)
And their joint love for birds burst into flame.
Now I’m losing my rhythm and rhyme
Time to stop now before too much crime
Against limerick form
Stains these pages: I’d scorn
To write more, so I’ll stop now -- and mime!
Wendie Shaffer, with thanks for some unforgettable days (didn’t get to see the Adaubon show in Boston, but did see a lot!!)
